~ Online Piano Lessons ~

How does it work?

Our teachers connect directly to their students through the internet, using meeting software like Zoom, FaceTime, Google Meet and/or Skype.

Our lessons last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and 60 minutes and happen weekly, except for specified holidays. In general, beginners take 30 minute lessons. At intermediate level (about Level 4 RCM) – we switch to 45 minutes. By  Level 8 RCM, we require students to take 60 minute lessons in order to cover all the material necessary for success at this level.

what equipment do i need?

First and foremost, you need the best piano for you and your level. Beginner students require at least a good keyboard, ideally with 88 weighted, touch-sensitive keys and a sustain pedal. To ensure successful continuation of lessons, please invest in the best instrument you can for your budget. Digital pianos and acoustic pianos are the best option–but be aware that acoustic pianos need to be tuned at least 2 times a year and may be a noise concern.

Lessons can be run successfully on smartphones, tablets, or laptops. Please set up your area in a quiet place, ideally with good wi-fi or network access. Make sure there is good lighting, and try to arrange your setup so that your instructor has a good side view of your hands on the keys, and you are able to turn and talk face-to-face with your teacher!

books and materials

Your teacher will work with you to help you get books and music to study. Some of the sites that you will be able to order books from include: amazon.ca or amazon.com, shop.rcmusic.com, sheetmusicplus.com, and sheetmusicdirect.com. In-person local music stores are also a helpful resource.
